Seafish has secured £1.4 million to support training for people working in the UK seafood industry including fishmongers. For the first time, Marine Fund Scotland (MFS) funding along with funding from the Fisheries and Seafood Scheme (Fass) for England will support many of our onshore training programmes. There is also funding in place for Wales. Our Northern Ireland application is currently under review and the final funding figure is not yet confirmed.

Training programmes to be funded include the following:
Introductory Food Hygiene in the seafood industry - remotely delivered;
Elementary Food Hygiene - online/eLearning;
Elementary Health and Safety - online/eLearning;
Principles of Fish Quality Assessment - remotely delivered;
Principles of Fish Smoking - remotely delivered;
Practical Fish Quality Assessment - in-person*
Practical Fish Smoking - in-person*
*venue hire and fish costs not included in the funding
The 100% MFS funding along with the 100% funding for Wales is for training delivered by 31 March 2027. The 100% funding from FaSS is for training delivered by 31 March 2028.
